Bio

Ralph Masullo’s interest and passion in photography has been pretty much life-long. It developed along with his first B&W print at the age of twelve in a make shift basement darkroom. This passion led to a 30+-year career as a professional photographer. The majority of this career was devoted to working commercially, in the studio producing still-life images for advertising and editorial purpose. Ralph’s client list included names like AT&T, American Express, Citibank, Chase, Moet Hennessy, Nikon, Sony, Toshiba, Visa, & Ziff Davis Publishing to name a few. His commercial work has been called “stunningly handsome”, bold, colorful and fun, a reflection of his personality.

About 15 years ago he began to shift his interests in photography away from the commercial world looking to devote more time to work as a fine artist and find new ways to apply his photography skills. It was at that time when Ralph began his involvement with photography education, splitting his time working commercially and teaching as an adjunct instructor. He eventually phased out his commercial studio, spending a few years working as a full-time staff photographer for the NYPD before being hired to teach photography full time. This shift in interest within photography has revitalized his passion for the medium and provided a renewed level of excitement similar to the first one.

Ralph Masullo received a BFA degree in photography from The School of Visual Arts, in NY and his MFA also in photography from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Ralph is located in NYC and currently teaches photography as a full time Assistant Professor at Suffolk County Community College while continuing to shoot his personal work.
